Event Anxiety is the excessive nervousness before a major performance based or important event such as an Interview, Examination or Public Speaking. Besides the usual recommendations for getting enough rest, eating healthy, exercise, prayer and being prepared, here are two sure fire ways of dealing with the event anxiety.

  1. The 4, 7, 8 Breathing Exercise for Calming the nerves

Breathe in through the nose to a count of 4 seconds, hold your breath for a count of 7 seconds and slowly release your breath through slightly pursed lips to a count of 8 seconds. Repeat this exercise 4 times if feeling jittery.

  1. Affirmations to kick out the self-saboteur

Repeat these affirmations to yourself 7 days before the event, once in the morning and once again in the evenings. This is meant to rewrite negative mental scripts running in the background of your mind (sub conscious)

  1. I have prepared well
  2. I have done my best
  3. I trust myself
  4. I trust my work
  5. I am calm and focused
  6. My head is clear
  7. My heart is peaceful
  8. I allow myself to continue learning and self-correcting
  9. I understand no one and nothing is perfect
  10. My best will do
  11. Tomorrow is a brand-new day!
  12. It’s okay
